Woman’s Doctor: There are new ways to treat post-surgery pain

There are new ways to treat pain after cosmetic surgery in an effort to minimize opioid use. Mercy Medical Center breast reconstruction surgeon Dr. Lauren Nigro said there will always be some discomfort after any surgery, but doctors now have new ways of treating pain. “Starting with the preoperative part of the surgery, we are able to give medications that help reduce postoperative pain, including Tylenol and other agents. Between operations, we can take complementary measures such as injections with numbing drugs, blocks,” Nigro said. As a result, Nigro said patients found they took fewer narcotics after the operation.
