Eye Make Up Tips
Types of Eye Make Up
- Eyeliner and eye shadow: The selection and application of eyeliner and eye shadow depends upon personal preference and the latest style trends. Eyeliner is meant to give depth to eyelashes and make them appear fuller. For this reason, a brown, gray, or black shade is usually best. Eye shadow on the other hand, highlights the eyes. Choose a shade or several shades that compliment the hair, skin, and eye coloring.
- Eyebrow Pencils: An eyebrow pencil can enhance the look of well-groomed eyebrows. Choose a shade that matches your eyebrows as closely as possible.
- Mascara: Mascara helps to improve the look and fullness of your eyelashes. There are many types of mascara that can be used in different situations, depending upon what look you are trying to achieve. The mascara brush plays a significant role in the results of the mascara. There are full brushes that are great for average length lashes and fine brushes for short, sparse, or bottom lashes. Volume mascaras “plump” up your lashes and lengthening mascaras create longer looking lashes. There are also mascaras with a waterproof formula.
Tips For Beautiful Eyes
- Applying Eyeliner: For best results, use liquid liner only above the top lashes. Pencils or eye shadow look best under the lower lashes. If you want a dramatic look, use colored pencil on top and bottom lashes and follow with a black liquid liner on the top lashes. This will make your lashes appear darker and improve the staying power of your eye make-up. Use a dark eyeliner if you want to highlight the shape of your eyes and deepen your look. Draw a thin, soft line along the lashes, right next to the roots. For more drama, lightly dot color along the lower lashes. To soften the look, smudge the liner with a fingertip or Q-tip.
- For Younger Eyes: Our eyes may be the windows to our soul but they are also the giveaway to our age. You may be proud of your years of smiling and laughter, but you don’t need to advertise every wrinkle and line. The key to making your eyes look younger is to reduce fine lines. Apply eye cream on the brown bone and under the eye to moisturize the skin and reduce the appearance of lines. Next, choose a concealer that matches your skin tone and apply it lightly around the eyes. Finally, line the lashes with a white pencil just beneath the lash line. This will make your eyes look larger and brighter. When applying eye shadow, apply it from the inside corner of the eye in an outward direction. Then highlight under the brows with a lighter shade of shadow.
- Eyebrows: Be very careful when using an eyebrow pencil to avoid “drawing” unnatural eyebrows. Your eyebrows should have a natural arch and you should maintain or embellish this arch with the pencil. Brush brows upward. Carefully trim any excess hair above the top of your natural arch. Don’t pencil in your eyebrows so they droop on the outer edges. Instead, pencil the highest point of your brow at a point above the outer corner of the pupil of your eye. To find where the end of your brow should be, take a pencil and make a line from the tip of your nose to the outer corner of your eye. Follow this line to your eyebrow line. Where these two points meet is where your eyebrow should end.
- Do not sleep in your make-up as this can cause your lashes to dry out and become brittle. Elevate your head when you sleep, to keep fluid from settling around your eyes.
Cleaning Eye Make Up
It is important to clean the face and the area of the eyes before applying make up, and again at the end of the day when make up is no longer needed. Cleansing the skin removes not only make up, but also debris, pollutants, and toxins that could damage your complexion. Wash you’re the area around the eye gently and if necessary, use a product made especially for eye make up removal, to remove any irritation. Cleanse the skin with a natural organic skin cleanser such as Aquaspirit.
Eye Make Up and Contact Lenses
Here are a few steps to help you minimize irritation to the eyes when wearing contact lenses. Hair spray, deodorant, cologne, mousse, nail polish and nail polish remover should be used before inserting your lenses. Apply eye make up after inserting your lenses and use products that are waterproof and hypoallergenic. Do not apply eyeliner to the inner edge of the lid or above the lash line on the lower lid. Use mascara sparingly and only on the outer half of the lashes. Replace all eye makeup three months after opening and stop using any makeup that seems to be causing irritation or redness in your eyes.
